NiTi alloys are widely used in the field of interventional medicine because of their unique hyperelasticity, shape memory, good physical and mechanical properties, biocompatibility. At the same time, due to the complex human physiological environment, NiTi alloy inevitably have problems such as Ni ion release and bacterial adhesion. Improving the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of NiTi alloy through surface modification technology has become a research hotspot. This paper briefly introduces the properties of NiTi alloy and the latest progress of surface treatment methods such as electric discharge machining surface modification, laser induction, anodic oxidation,self-assembly synthesis and chemical surface modification. The effects of micro/nano structure and element types on the wettability, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of NiTi alloy are summarized. It is pointed out that the main direction of surface modification of NiTi alloy in the future is to adopt multiple surface modification technologies to improve the implant performance.
