Abstract:
Bone defect and bone fracture are common clinical implications due to bone tumor resection, bone necrosis, osteitis and various traumas. Transplantation of autograft that comes from a healthy site in patient to the defect site is the gold standard treatment but the donor shortage limits its application. Mimicking the compositional and structural characteristics of bone and its biomineralization process, biomimetic functionalized bone repair materials can be produced with advanced materials synthesis and processing techniques, in particular nanotechnology development to a precise modulation. This manuscript focuses on the synthesis of nanoscale calcium and phosphate containing minerals, the control of organic molecular templates on the size and morphology of bone like minerals, as well as the construction of biomimetic porous scaffold.
