Abstract:
Magnetic microbubble is a micro/nano binary structure composed of encapsulated microbubble and magnetic nanoparticles. Magnetic microbubbles have been used in dualmode imaging for the double properties of ultrasound imaging and magnetic resonance imaging. Sonoporation makes magnetic microbubbles to conduct enormous bioeffects, which have great potential application value in drug delivery and gene transfection. The coupling of magnetic microbubbles to other biomolecules (antibodies, tumor markers and so on) expands the applications of magnetic microbubbles, such as molecular imaging and targeted tumor therapy. So it is proposed that magnetic microbubbles can be potentially applied as a new generation of biological magnetic micro/nano materials for theranostics. This review summarizes the methods to generate magnetic microbubbles, the forms of nanoparticles binding to microbubbles, the functional expanding of magnetic microbubbles and the experimental studies of magnetic microbubbles for biomedical theranostics. In the end, this review raises some ideas of the future development for magnetic microbubbles, and looks forward to the extensive prospects of magnetic microbubbles for theranostics.
