Abstract:
This paper reviewed the recent progresses on the interface control in carbon nanotubes reinforced aluminum matrix composites (CNT/Al), including surface modification of CNTs, alloying of Al matrix, and the optimization and control of the fabrication technologies. The present research still has certain limitations, for example, lack of design and control of coating size and distribution, inefficiency of CNTs reinforcement effect. In order to fulfill the application and performance requirements of CNT/Al composites, special approaches need to be developed to realize the nanolevel surface modification of CNTs, such as local decoration of CNTs surface, and optimization design of composite configuration. The size and distribution of nanoparticles should be finely and effectively controlled to obtain an ideal CNT/Al interface and improve reinforcement efficiency of CNTs.
