Abstract:
Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new type of material, known as coordination polymer. MOFs have many characteristics as drug carriers and have become an important candidate material for drug storage and delivery in recent years. Generally, the synthesized nanometer MOFs are difficult to meet their applications in biomedicine. Surface modification can improve the stability and dispersion of MOFs, which can help drugs overcome physiological barriers and realize oral administration of MOFs. In addition, the degradation of MOFs can be slowed down by surface modification to realize slow release. Further modification can also increase the enrichment of drugs at specific sites to achieve targeted therapy. Surface modification is important for the development of MOFs drug delivery systems. In recent years, relatively common MOFs surface modification materials include polyethylene glycol, silicon dioxide, cyclodextrin, heparin, chitosan, and other targeted modification materials, such as folic acid, DNA, glycyrrhizin, etc. In this paper, the functional modification materials commonly used in MOFs and the excellent properties of MOFs were introduced. The application prospect of modified MOFs in the field of medicine was illustrated with examples to provide references for the development of drug carrier MOFs.
