Lithium reserves is an essential material for the new energy industry, it is strategically significant to realize the effective extraction of lithium from its resources. With everincreasing global demand, lithium obtained by traditional mining and extraction methods is far from being enough to meet the growing market demand. Extraction of valuable metals from fly ash provides an alternate way to release the urgent supply and demand. Lithium can be released from fly ash to form low concentration lithium solution in the process of extracting aluminum and silicon by acid/alkali leaching methods, and then separated and enriched by solvent extraction, adsorption or precipitation methods. This paper reviews the lithium extraction methods from acid/alkali mediums of fly ash, and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the above methods. The present situations, problems and development directions are analyzed and discussed.
