Abstract:
Magnesium alloys are widely used in automobile, rail transportation and aerospace industries due to their low density, high specific strength and high damping property, etc. However, it is inevitable that the traditional casting processes, especially conventional gravity casting and lowpressure casting magnesium alloys, always have casting defects. Squeeze casting, as a near-net forming process, has been demonstrated to be capable of minimizing the casting defects and improving mechanical properties, which is of great significance to the development and application of magnesium alloys. In this work, the characteristics and latest research progress in squeeze casting magnesium alloys are introduced and summarized, including alloying and process parameter optimization of squeeze casting magnesium alloys. The microstructure and mechanical properties of squeeze casting magnesium alloys are mainly described, which can be helpful for the composition design of squeeze casting magnesium alloys and the preparation of high performance magnesium alloys. At last, based on experiments and theories, the future research directions and challenges of squeeze casting magnesium alloys are discussed.
