Abstract:
The paper gave a brief introduction to the preparation of itaconic acid. It could be produced by microorganism fermentation method, critic acid synthesis method and maleic anhydride synthesis method. Itaconic acid contains two carboxyl groups and double bonds, which can be used for synthesizing polymers and copolymers with other monomers. For example, itaconic acid could be copolymeized with acrylonitrile to prepare caron fiber and copolymerized with dihydric alcohol to prepare polyester. Many polymer materials can also be modified by itconic acid. Polyolefin and nylon materials could be grafted by itaconic acid to improve the compatibility, and styrenebutadiene latex could be modified by itaconic acid to improve its performance greatly. Due to the nonrenewablity of fossil energy, as the capacity of itconic acid increasing, the biobased material like itaconic acid has a bright future.
